This disc celebrates the music of four of today’s most distinguished opera composers in works that redefine storytelling with the orchestra taking centre stage.
For this disc of world-premiere recordings, the BBC Scottish Symphony, led by contemporary music specialist Timothy Redmond, is joined by the virtuoso trombone superstar Peter Moore.

STARGAZER
STARGAZER by composer JONATHAN DOVE is luminously beautiful. The work, commissioned by the London Symphony Orchestra, is subtitled “an opera for trombone and orchestra,” offering a lyrical showcase for its virtuosic soloist.
Conductor Tim Redmond sat down with Dove and the virtuoso trombone superstar Peter Moore to explore the wonder and magic woven into this remarkable piece.

EURYIDICE & HEATH
Matthew Aucoin is one of the brightest stars in the musical firmament. We’re thrilled to present two world premiere recordings of his works on our new album, BEYOND.
Commissioned by the Lincoln Center Theater / Met Opera New Works Program and premiered by LA Opera and The Met, EURYDICE brought together the extraordinary talents of playwright & librettist Sarah Ruhl and composer Matthew Aucoin.
Such was its success, that a suite from the opera was jointly commissioned by Yannick Nézet-Séguin and Tim Redmond for the Philadelphia Orchestra, Winston-Salem Symphony, and the Harvard Radcliffe Orchestra.
HEATH is like an opera in miniature. Aucoin weaves together his sketches for a future setting of King Lear and in the process creates an evocative sound world that is as hauntingly beautiful as it is dramatic.
